Standing up for children, listening, learning, and helping them find sage permanent homes. This is what CASA volunteers do.
CASA volunteers are ordinary people who do extraordinary work. CASA has 2 types of volunteers: child advocates and administrative/special events supporters.
(Ă'd've-kāt')= to plead in another’s behalf; to speak or argue for a cause..
Child advocates stand up for children who are in the foster care system. Their duties include:
- Visiting the child, parents, and anyone else who understands the case
- Making recommendations to the juvenile court concerning the child’s welfare and placement
- Attending court hearings and team meetings to help unite the team on a practical plan for the child
- Find out what is best for each child rather than applying generic solutions
There are some things CASA Child Advocates DO NOT do. Those include removing children from their home, engaging in issues that don’t affect the children, participating in political or partisan advocacy, and transporting children.
